*Retired after 25 years.* Since 1998, I taught in Clermont Florida. As a mother and grandmother, I made it my mission to teach as many children and adults as possible how to save their own lives in the water. I am a Founding member of Unlock Autism. I was also an avid member of the Central Florida Drowning Prevention Task Force, the Central Florida Safe Kids Coalition, and the Lake County Safe Kids Coalition; up until the organizations were disbanded due to lack of funds. I was the Founder and Sponsor of the Annual Locks of Love Cut-off at the Relay For Life of South Lake for twelve years. I was chosen by the South Lake YMCA as Volunteer of the Year, two years in a row.
I grew up in the Clermont area, volunteering at numerous safety events along the side of my mother, and now raising my own daughter here. I carried on the family tradition by instilling water safety into my own child. I began lessons with her at 6 months old and now she swims like a fish. Saving lives is a passion of mine. I hope to continue in my mother's footsteps and teach as many children as possible how to be safe in the water.
I was Mrs. Kathleen’s first student. Some of my earliest memories are of helping to take care of babies and entertain them as their siblings received swim lessons. I regularly volunteered for Kid’s College as a teenager. Teaching has always been a passion of mine and it was only natural to jump into the family business. Safety is my number one concern. I wish to impart onto every student that we can have lots of fun in the water, but only if we are mindful of our safety.
